Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport was given a significant upgrade in preparation for the 2010 Fifa World Cup. It processes most international flights arriving in South Africa and receives over 18 million passengers each year.
Passengers flying to OR Tambo can connect to most regional airports via OR Tambo. It is also conveniently close to many local attractions such as the Kruger National Park and the historic townships of Alexandria and Soweto in Johannesburg.
The airport is 12.7 miles (20.5km) east of Johannesburg.
Getting to the city
The Gautrain provides fast and easy access to the Johannesburg city centre from the airport, with regular express trains to Sandton. An airport bus departs regularly to the city centre. Authorised shuttle buses and taxis are available, displaying the ACSA logo on their vehicles. Hotel shuttle buses depart every 15 minutes from the bus terminal.

Car rental companies represented at the airport include Avis, Tempest, Select Car Hire, Thrifty, Woodford Car Hire, Capital Care Hire, Hertz, First Car Rental, Bidvest Car Rental, and Europcar.
A metered taxi will take 30-40 minutes to the city centre. Taxis wait opposite the international arrivals terminal (Terminal A). Only official metered taxis should be taken.

The terminals are all connected.
Facilities at the airport include bureaux de change, banks, a post office, shops, restaurants and bars, viewing decks, a medical clinic, conference rooms, accommodation, wifi, and a prayer room.
Short-term parking charges at OR Tambo Airport range from around ZAR 30 for the first two hours in Parkade 1, to ZAR 20 for the first hour or ZAR 30 for two hours in Parkade 2. Official long-term parking lots cost approximately ZAR 55 per day and are connected to the airport via shuttle bus.
There are four free hours of wifi provided to passengers in the boarding areas of the airport. Alternatively, customers can make use of 1 gigabyte of data. However, if the four hours elapse or the passenger uses all the data, one can top up with a pay-as-you-go service.
A number of airlines have lounges at OR Tambo. Additionally, the Premier Conference Centre in the domestic terminal has three 10-seater rooms, a 12-seater room, a 14-seater room, a seminar facility for groups of 25 or 50, and a conference room for groups of 60 or 120 delegates.
